Koninklijke KPN was, prior to 1998, responsible for the providing of telecommunication & postal services in the Netherlands under the name of Koninklijke PTT Nederland and was a state company until 1989. Beside its postal and telecom activities the company also distributed a wide range of communication equipment and it operated, through wholly owned subsidiaries: courier services, a cable television network, logistic services, data communication networks, carleasing, safety & security services and a capital funds venture. In 1998 the company divested its postal operations into a new public company (TNT Post Group) and since then solely operates as a telecom company.
