Copaco maintains profit-expectations for 2001
Copaco realised a net profit of € 2.4 million in the first 6 months of 2001 compared with a loss of € 7.7 million for the same period in 2000. The turnover fell fractionally from € 214.3 million to € 212.2 million, the gross margin improved 30% from 5.5% to 7.2%. The operating result totalled € 4.4 million compared with € -3.5 million in the first half of 2000.

Copaco incurs losses after large restructuring
Copaco has incurred net losses of EUR 7.6 mln in the year 2000, which is in accordance with expectations. Profit figures were strongly influenced by restructuring costs. Turnover rose by only 0.7% to EUR 466.2 mln last year. Copaco managed a recovery of its profits in the second half of the year. Copaco incurred losses of EUR 7.7 mln in the first six months of the year 2000.

Copaco realised an 8% increase in turnover compared with the third quarter of 1999. Turnover increased from € 103.3 million in 1999 to € 111.6 million this year. The turnover of service and solution activities increased from € 4.5 million to € 11.2 million, an increase of 148%. The turnover of ICT products and software increased from € 98.7 million over the third quarter of 1999 to € 100.4 million over the same quarter this year, an increase of 1.7%.

Copaco reported on Wednesday reported a net loss of EUR 7.7 mln for the first-half of 2000, compared with a net profit of EUR 3.8 mln the company booked in the comparible period of 1999. Turnover decreased 6% from EUR 227.8 mln to EUR 214.3 mln. Operating income fell from an operating profit of EUR 6.0 mln to an operating loss of EUR 3.5 mln.

Copaco reported sales for the first nine months of 1999 were 64% up to NLG 729.6 mln, of which 16% due to organic growth. The company did not disclose operating profit or net profit, but said in a statement that it was encountering declining prices and orders due to Y2K issues. The company said that net profit for full-year 1999 will be lower than for full-year 1998.

Copaco yesterday issued a new 1999 earnings forecast, a day after predicting net profit growth of 10% for the current year. At the presentation of 1998 earnings on Wednesday, Copaco had said the projected profit increase was dependent on the rate of streamlining new acquisitions and unforeseen millennium effects.

Copaco acquires computer Distributor
Copaco announced on Monday the acquisition of Sydicom, a specialised distributor for Digital. Through the acquisition of Digital by Compaq, Sydicom became also Compaq distributor. The company booked 1997 turnover of NLG 76 people and employs 47 people. Copaco pays for the transaction with shares, which is to become effective January 1, 1999. Copaco expects a possitive contribution to its earnings per share immediately.

Computer distributor Copaco has acquired Naarden-based software supplier A-Line. Copaco said it has almost finalised takeover talks with A-Line. Copaco is to finance the transaction with its own shares, for which it is considering a share issue. A-Line's current major shareholders are Begemann and Joep van de Nieuwehuizen.

Copaco is acquiring computer distributor Sydicom of Veldhoven. Sydicom is the leading distributor of Digital. The company booked 1997 turnover of NLG 76 mln and employs 42 people. The takeover is expected to be finalised in the first-half of September. Copaco plans to consolidate Sydicom's results with retroactive effect from July 1. Copaco is to finance the acquisition from its own reserves and through the issue of new shares.

The new bourse listing on the Amsterdam stock exchange for Eindhoven-based computer distributor Copaco was eight times oversubscribed. ABN Amro bank managed the flotation. The share opened at NLG 25.50 on Friday, NLG 1.50 higher than the introduction price of NLG 24.00. The introduction price of NLG 24.00 was at the upper end of the NLG 20.00 to NLG 24.00 range.

The introduction price of Copaco has been set between NLG 20 and NLG 24 by syndicate leader ABN Amro Rothschild. The company is floating a maximum of 3.4 mln shares on the Amsterdam Stock Exchange. Current shareholders are offering a maximum of 2.5 mln shares and up to one million new shares will be issued by the company. The preliminary prospectus will be available Februari 3 1998. Trading in Copaco will begin on February 13.
