Brill announces results in the first half of 2001
Sales and results of Brill Academic Publishers increased in the first half of 2001. Sales grew to EUR 5.78 mln (2000: EUR 5.44 mln) and operating income grew to EUR 0.66 mln (2000: EUR 0.56 mln). Net income rose by 24% to EUR 0.46 mln (2000: EUR 0.37 mln). Earnings per share improved by 19% over 2000, marking an increase to EUR 0.57 (2000: EUR 0.48).

Strong profit growth for Brill in 2000
Sales and earnings developed favorably during 2000 for publisher Koninklijke Brill. As sales increased 17% to EUR 11.6 mln (1999: EUR 9.9 mln), after-tax income rose 25% to EUR 1.0 mln (1999: 0.8 million). Earnings per share increased 21% compared to 1999, from EUR 1.04 to EUR 1.27. Shares outstanding rose 3%.

Brill reported on Thursday net profit for the first-half of 2000 increased 27% to EUR 0.37 mln, compared with net profit of EUR 0.29 mln the company booked in the comparible period of 1999. Turnover increased 31% from EUR 4.15 mln to EUR 5.44 mln. Operating income increased 30% from EUR 0.43 mln to EUR 0.56 mln.

Brill lifts profit
Brill booked net profit of EUR 800,000 last year, up 28% on 1998. Turnover rose 11% to EUR 9.9 mln, partly due to magazine sales which now account for 30% of turnover. Brill said it wants to double its turnover in four years to EUR 20 mln by expanding its proportion of scientific and hard-copy magazines from 20% to 50% of turnover. Brill said demand for scientific journals is increasing, adding they are ideal for online publication given the fast pace of change in this sector.

Brill reported on Tuesday net profit for the first-half of 1999 increased 16% to EUR 290,000, compared with net profit of EUR 250,000 the company booked in the comparible period of 1998. Turnover remainded flat at EUR 4.15 mln. Operating income increased 19% from EUR 360,000 to EUR 430,000. Earnings per share for the first-half of 1999 increased 15% to EUR 0.39, compared with earnings per share of EUR 0.34 for the first-half of 1998.

Brill acquires Vista Science Press
Brill announced on Thursday the acquisition of Vista Science Press of Leiden for an undisclosed sum. Vista Science Press is a small publisher specialised in basic and applied scientific journals in English. Its main clients are university libraries and industrial research laboratories.

Brill 7% lower net profit
Brill recorded 7% lower net profit at NLG 1.37 mln in 1998. Reorganisation costs were the main cause of the decline, said Brill. But the integration of Humanities Press and the expansion of its marketing and distribution activities were also contributing factors. Turnover increased 12% to NLG 19.1 mln of which two percentage points were due to acquisitions.

Turnover increased 22% from NLG 7.5 mln to NLG 9.2 mln. Operating income increased 41% from NLG 0.55 mln to NLG 0.78 mln. Earnings per share for the first-half of 1998 increased 18% to NLG 0.75, compared with earnings per share of NLG 0.64 for the first-half of 1997.

Brill reports net profit up 27%
Koninklijke Brill of Leiden reports net profit for 1997 increased with 27% to NLG 1.47 mln, compared with NLG 1.15 mln the company booked in 1996. Turnover grew with 8.5% from NLG 15.8 mln to NLG 17.1 mln. Operating result rose by 15% at NLG 1.84 mln, compared with NLG 1.6 mln for 1996. Earnings per share increased with 25% from NLG 1.62 to NLG 2.02.
