Bever acquires asset manager
Bever said it acquired Amsterdam-based asset manager and broker Damstaete for an undisclosed cash amount. Damstaete employs 8 people. Former holding company for market makers Bever, Brom/Glasbergan and Van der Wielen, the company said the move follows this week's introduction of the French NSC trading system, which has made market makers redundant. The acquisition offers Bever the chance to combine securities trading with asset management.

Bever holding reported on Friday net profit for the first-half of 2000 increased 67% to EUR 8.2 mln, compared with net profit of EUR 4.9 mln the company booked in the comparible period of 1999. Operating income increased 61% from EUR 12.8 mln to EUR 20.6 mln. Earnings per share for the first-half of 2000 increased 69% to EUR 2.28, compared with earnings per share of EUR 1.35 for the first-half of 1999.

Bever booked net profit of EUR 7.6 mln
Bever Holding booked net profit of EUR 7.6 mln in the first five months of 2000, equivalent to the entire profit last year. The company made the announcement at its AGM on Wednesday. Bever is aholding company for market makers Van der Wielen & Co and Brom/glasbergen. Van der Wielen director declined to give a full-year forecast, saying it was impossible to predict how turnover would develop given the volarility on the markets.

Bever Holding announced on Friday net profit for the first-half of 1999 fell 71% to EUR 4.9 mln, compared with EUR 16.8 mln the firm booked for the comparible 1998 period. Gross operating profit fell by 32% from EUR 18.9 mln to EUR 12.8 mln. Net earnings per share came to EUR 1.35, compared with EUR 4.67 for the 1998 first-half.

Bever Holding reported on Thursday net profit for the second-half of 1998 fell to NLG 900,000, compared with NLG 21.1 mln the market maker booked for the first-half. Bever Holding blamed the difficult market conditions, and said it was too early to make a 1999 forecast.

AOT acquires market specialist Wolbers
AOT is to acquire market specialist firm Wolbers as soon as the stock exchange moves to its new trading floor. Wolbers specialises in technology stocks ASML and Baan, among others. The acquisition will boost AOT's share of the market specialist market by 8% to 32%. The rest of the market is in the hands of Van der Moolen (35%) and Bever Holding (33%).
