Amsterdam Rubber said on on Monday it had booked consolidated net profit of NLG 3.7 mln in the first six month of this year, a 42% increase on the year-earlier period. Turnover rose 15% to NLG 284.2 mln.

Amsterdam Rubber reported on Thursday net profit for 1999 decreased 14% to NLG 7.0 mln, compared with net profit of NLG 8.1 mln the company booked in the comparible period of 1998. Amsterdam Rubber reports net profit for 1997 more than tripled to NLG 7.1 mln, compared with NLG 2 mln the company booked for 1996. The net profit is sharply higher than the NLG 5.5 mln forecast last February. Turnover increased with 12% from NLG 416 mln to NLG 466 mln. Wurfbain (rubber) generated NLG 286 mln while Catz International (spice) generated 180 mln.

Wurfbain merging with Tong Teik of Singapore
L. Wurfbain & Co, the trading subsidiary of Amsterdam Rubber, is merging with Tonk Teik of Singapore to form one of the largest rubber traders in the world. Singapore is near the big rubber-producing countries Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand and Vietnam and took over as the world's leading rubber trading centre from London about six years ago.

Amsterdam Rubber expects to publish the results in April.
