Emis expects losses this year
Emis has seen the number of orders drop. The increase of demand for research data already slowed down in the second quarter, and this has now changed to a fall. As a result, Emis expects results to deteriorate this year. Emis also decided to take a one-off charge of EUR 2.6 mln because investments in new media are not paying off as quickly as expected. Partly due to this, Emis will dive into the red in 2001. The board did say that the market recovered slightly in October.

Emis generates higher profits
Emis, the stock market-listed Dutch research company, saw pre-tax profits rise by 57% to EUR 1.27 mln in the year 2000. Net profits are expected to amount to EUR 1.45 mln, compared with EUR 0.82 mln a year earlier. Emis announced these preliminary figures on Monday. The final annual results will be published on 15 March. Yesterday, the Emis share price rose by 1.7% to close at EUR 6.05.

On Thursday Emis announced first-half pre-tax of EUR 577,000, up 50% on the year earlier period. Turnover rose by 3.5% to EUR 9.9 mln. Emis said full-year turnover and operating result will be higher than in 1999.

The company did not disclose turnover and net profit figures. Emis said it expects turnover and operating income to further improve in the second-half of the year. The company sees full-year net earnings per share to increase compared with 1999 results.

According preliminary figures of EMIS for 1997 the company booked a loss of NLG 1.4 mln against a net profit of NLG 1.8 mln in 1996. The turnover for 1997 is NLG 42.5 mln, against NLG 46.5 mln in 1996. In the loss an extraordinary charge of NLG 1 mln is included for reorganisation purposes. For 1998 EMIS is forecasting a profit.
