NVM continues struggle against Telegraaf
NVM, the Dutch association of estate agents, will continue to oppose the free use of its property databank by Dutch publisher of daily newspapers De Telegraaf. On Thursday, NVM lodged an appeal with the High Court against a previous ruling which favoured De Telegraaf. NVM will simultaneously start a standard procedure about the same case at the Amsterdam court.

De Telegraaf allowed to publish TV-listings
De Telegraaf, the Dutch newspaper, was given the green light by the court in The Hague on Tuesday to publish TV and radio listings obtained from Dutch television and radio company NOS in its weekly supplement TV Week. In a summary proceedings launched by NOS in January 1999, the court banned the newspaper from publishing the details.

De Telegraaf reported on Wednesday net profit for the first-half of 2000 decreased 18% to NLG 67.8 mln, compared with net profit of NLG 82.3 mln the company booked in the comparible period of 1999. Turnover increased 11% from NLG 857.6 mln to NLG 950.3 mln. Operating income increased 3% from NLG 115.3 mln to NLG 118.4 mln.

Telegraaf and broadcaster Tros end legal battle
Publisher De Telegraaf and public broadcaster Tros on Tuesday agreed to end a three year legal battle over Tros' decision to stop publising two of its TV guides via De Telegraaf. De Telegraaf and Tros worked together for 30 years until 1997. The tow companies said they had wasted too much time and energy over the dispute and would consider working together again in the future.

Telegraaf takes stake in internet company
De Telegraaf has acquired a 10% stake in jumptech.com, a company which supplies services for connecting print to the internet. The services allow readers to scan bar codes printed within articles or advertisements and then can "jump" to customized information on the Internet. The technology is being used in Dagens Nyheter, Sweden's largest daily newspaper, and ID Systems, an industry trade publication. Financial details were not disclosed.

Publisher De Telegraaf reported on Thursday net profit for 1999 decreased 2% to NLG 142.8 mln, compared with net profit of NLG 145.2 mln the company booked in the comparible period of 1998. Turnover increased 5% from NLG 1.52 bn to NLG 1.59 bn. Earnings per share for 1999 decreased 2% to NLG 2.72, compared with earnings per share of NLG 2.77 for 1998.

De Telegraaf realigns newspapers
De Telegraaf said on Monday that it is planning to place its evening titles into a single publishing subsidiary in a move to improve efficiency and quality. The new unit will have a combined circulation of 140,000. The independent titles will remain, but editorial staff will be affected by the move.

De Telegraaf issues profit warning
Publishing group De Telegraaf warned yesterday that this year's net profit would fall by between 12% and 20%, compared with 1999. The two main reasons for the decline are a NLG 30 mln (USD 14.3 mln) investment in the group's internet activities and start-up costs for its free daily paper Spits, launched in June. The company also said that its 1999 net profit would be between 2% and 4% lower than the record profits of NLG 145.2 mln booked in 1998.

De Telegraaf said on Monday that it will more focus on its internet activities. The publisher said that its internet subsidiary Telegraaf Electronische Media would be incorporated into the division which publishes the daily newspaper De Telegraaf.

VNU sells five regional papers to Wegener Arcade
VNU announced on Tuesday that it expects to reach an agreement with publisher Wegener Arcade on the sale of VNU Dagbladen to Wegener Arcade for NLG 1.8 bn. The regional daily newspapers NB/DE Stem, Brabants Dagblad, Eindhovens Dagblad and De Gelderlander will become part of Wegener Arcade. Wegener Arcade announced its intention to sell Uitgeversmaatschappij De Limburger, a subsidiary of VNU Newspapers, to the Dutch publishing company Telegraaf after final agreement has been reached with VNU.

Telegraaf to print, distribute HFD
De Telegraaf and Het Financieele Dagblad (HFD) signed a provisional agreement on Wednesday under which De Telegraaf is to print and distribute HFD. The deal will run for seven years and is valued at some NLG 100 mln. HFD will switch to De Telegraaf's printers in September 2000 at the earliest. HFD is leaving its current printer and distributer PCM following failed negotiations on the extension of HFD's contract.

De Telegraaf acquires Swedish publisher
De Telegraaf announced on Wednesday the acquisition of Swedish publisher Svenk Special Press (SSP) of Stockholm. The take-over will be back dated to January 1, 1999. SSP will be incorporated in De Telegraaf's magazines subsidiary Tijdschriften Groep. SSP publishes two special interest magazines in Sweden for the yachting and and motor boat sector, and publishes Golf Digest.

De Telegraaf must stop TV Week
A court in The Hague has ordered De Telegraaf to temporarily cease publication of its weekly television listings magazine TV Week. The court said that the publisher is infringing copyright owned by NOS and the public broadcasters.

NOS takes De Telegraaf to court
Dutch public broadcaster NOS has taken publisher De Telegraaf to court in a move aimed at stopping it publishing its TV guide, TV Week. NOS says its programme information is protected by author's copyright, and demands NLG 50,000 for each infringement. De Telegraaf alleges that the information printed in TV Week is intended to be a break-down by genre based on seasonal programme summaries and NOS press releases -- which, it maintains, are not protected by copyright.

Telegraaf boosts print capacity
De Telegraaf is expanding its printing capacity for newspapers in both Amsterdam and Heerlen. The firm is doubling its colour newspaper printing activities in Amsterdam, the firm said on Monday. The company is investing NLG 170 mln of its own funds in the Expansion, which should be completed by mid-2002.

De Telegraaf Holding is a concern with substantial assets which could be used to finance foreign expansion. Turnover increased with 6% from NLG 1.28 bn to NLG 1.36 bn. Operating result rose by 40% at NLG 120.5 mln, compared with NLG 86.0 mln for 1996. Operating profit increased 21% to NLG 173.3 mln, mainly due to lower paper prices, the company said.

Telegraaf to acquire printing company
De Telegraaf is in talks to acquire printing company Nederlands Drukkerij Bedrijf of Zoeterwoude. Nederlands Drukkerij Bedrijf has annual sales of more than NLG 50 mln and employs around 130. De Telegraaf plans to concentrate printing activities in one division. Nederlands Drukkerij Bedrijf and Biegelaar and Jansen, which De Telegraaf already owns, will operate under the name Biegelaar Group. The new group will have annual sales of NLG 250 mln and employs 500.

The Telegraaf Holding is to stop its loss-making daily paper Courant Nieuws van de Dag. The Amsterdam-oriented paper will be incorporated into the daily De Telegraaf. Current subscribers to Courant Nieuws van de Dag will be offered a subscription to De Telegraaf. De Telegraaf will expand its Amsterdam coverage for local subscribers.
