Boskalis keeps good prospects and orders two hopper dredgers
Yesterday Royal Boskalis Westminster nv ordered two trailing suction hopper dredgers of 16,000 m3 each at Merwede Shipyards in Hardinxveld-Giessendam, The Netherlands. The ships, specially designed for dredging and transport of sand and silt, fit in the fleet plans that Boskalis announced earlier this year.

Heijmans and Boskalis are in agreement on the basics of a future purchase of the HBG's dredging activities. Heijmans expects to publish an offer memorandum in the second half of October 2001. An offer is expected to be approximately 1/3 Heijmans share plus a cash amount of EUR 12 per HBG share. An offer will be subject to the condition HBG will not proceed with the announced joint venture with Ballast Nedam.

Boskalis appeared to play down its chances of landing a long-sought after domestic acquisition when it said that a rival merger plan would create sector stability in the short term. Boskalis Westminster said it won a contract worth NLG 80 mln to construct the next part of the "Betuweroute", the 24.4 km long stretch linking Gorinchem and Buren by train.
