Effective on Thursday, DSI - Dispense Systems International B.V., a wholly owned daughter company of Aalberts Industries N.V. - and Micro Matic have settled unanimously all patent disputes. Both parties are entitled to use the litigious patents independently. Thereby, the dispute between the companies DSI and Micro Matic has come to an end.

Aalberts Industries N.V. has reached agreement with the shareholders of the Spanish company Standard Hidr ulica S.A. on the acquisition of 100% of the shares. Standard Hidr ulica, based in Barcelona and with turnover of EUR 20 mln, is a leading Spanish manufacturer of Flow Control Systems. The company is the second largest supplier of Flow Control Systems on the Spanish market and exports over 30% of its turnover to a large number of countries within and outside Europe.

Aalberts Industries N.V. has acquired a 51% interest in the German company Meibes Zeitspar-Armaturen fr Heiztechnik GmbH. Meibes, with its turnover of approx. EUR 20 mln develops, produces and sells systems for hot water supply and heating in dwellings and premises. Meibes control systems are applied in combination with a heat source (central heating boilers) and contribute to efficient hot water consumption and via this to water and energy savings.

Conti-Efka Europe B.V., a wholly-owned subsidiary of Aalberts Industries N.V., is to begin sales in the Benelux of a new total concept to control the legionella bacterium (which causes Legionnaire's disease), based on thermal disinfection. Conti-Efka was set up especially for this purpose, and has been operating in the Benelux since 1 May 2001; rapid expansion to other European countries is planned.

Aalberts reports net profit for 1997 increased 39% to NLG 36.4 mln, compared with NLG 26.2 mln in 1996. Turnover rose 30% at NLG 611 mln. Earnings per share increased less sharply by 24% to NLG 2.30. The growth was mainly generated by acquisitions and joint ventures in the US, Poland, Germany and France. To expand its activities in the UK, Aalberts is talking with several companies about a take over. For 1998, the company forecast growth figures as realised in previous years.
