From Paderborn-Lippstadt to Granville

After postponing with one day because of weather, we flew on Sunday 19 February 2012 to Granville in France. We circumnavigated the bad weather over the Ardennes and we made the planned stop at Maubeuge aerodrome, just across the Belgium border with France and approximately half-way between Paderborn and Granville. After fueling at Maubeuge, we continued to Granville, where we arrived at 4 PM. We first refueled the plane, and then took a taxi to Granville, where the carnaval was going on.

Trip to Bretagne

The next day, on Monday, we made a flight over Brittany (Bretagne). We first flew to the famous Mont Saint Michel, and from there to Dinan airport. From Dinan we flew to Quiberon, on the south side of Brittany. On the way we passed the famous Carnac megaliths, which we were able to see from the plane. Following Quiberon, we made a short hop to Belle-Ile en Mer, the island south of Bretagne, and from there to Rennes. At Rennes, we fueled and had a snack, and then we returned to Granville.

From Granville to Rouen

On Tuesday we saw that the weather forecast for Holland and Germany was not good for the second half of the week, and we decided to fly to Hilversum on Wednesday to avoid the risk of getting stuck in France. We flew to Bagnoles, and then to Rouen, where we spent the night.

From Rouen to Hilversum

On Wednesday morning we flew to Hilversum. We first had to remove frost from the plane. A tailwind shortened the actual flight time from Rouen to Hilversum to one hour and forty-five minutes.

From Hilversum to Paderborn

Thursday and Friday were non-flying days. On Saturday we returned the plane to Paderborn, and hoped that the weather would allow us to do some flying over the Sauerland. The weather in Germany was only improving slowly, and at a stop at Munster, Telgte airport, we canceled the Sauerland tour. We arrived at Paderborn under special VFR.
