To Mendoza, Argentina
On Friday April 2, 2010, Rene flew to Mendoza for the wedding of Carsten and Maria that took place on Friday April 9, 2010. The route was from Amsterdam via Madrid and Santiago de Chile to Mendoza. In Santiago de Chile a visit to the city was possible before the next leg to Mendoza. In the evening there was a diner in Mendoza. The other guys went on into the early hours of Sunday morning, but Rene left at about 00:30 to finally get some sleep.
From Mendoza, La Puntilla to San Rafael
On Sunday afternoon, April 4 2010, Rene was picked-up by Hernan from San Rafael at La Puntilla airfield to fly back together to San Rafael. The plan was to stay for two or three nights at San Rafael, and to make several flights. Though I was told that the weather was perfect for 99% of the year, it was not so good the next day. Low overcast around San Rafael, though not in San Rafael itself, stopped us from making the planned flights. Rene made a local flight from San Rafael with Marcelo. At the time we were flying in the morning, also Mendoza was in low clouds. Rather than taking the risk of staying in San Rafael without flying because of low overcast, Rene decided to return to Mendoza. In the mean time, the weather had sufficiently cleared up in Mendoza, and Rene was able to fly back to Mendoza with Walter.
Local flight from San Rafael
For Monday April 5 2010, the plan was to make a round-trip from San Rafael to Malargue and General Alvear in the morning, and a trip to San Luis and Villa Reynolds in the afternoon. Unfortunately, it was low overcast south-west of San Rafael (direction Malargue) and east of San Rafael (direction San Luis). The morning flight became a local flight to the Los Reyunos reservoir and Cerro Diamante west of San Rafael.
From San Rafael to Mendoza
In the afternoon we flew back to Mendoza, after the clouds had cleared-up there. We first flew to Mendoza El Plumerillo airport for fueling, and then went on to the small airfield La Puntilla of the Mendoza aeroclub.
To Aconcagua and the Cristo Redentor pass
For Tuesday, Carsten had organized a day trip to the Parque Provincial Acongagua at the Acongagua mountain, the highest mountain outside the Himalayas. Then we went on to the Cristo Redentor pass on the border of Argentina and Chili.
